This Is Sort of Cute

Published by at 7:13 pm under Badassery,Marvel Comics,News

A mother needed help convincing her four-year-old (who suffers from severe hearing loss) to wear a hearing aid. He thought it was decidedly unbadass. In response to a letter from the mother, Marvel Comics created a superhero who used a hearing aid to detect crime.  This strikes me as a very thoughtful gesture (and, although it would probably cheapen the moment, very cost-effective public relations).

I read about that on Saturday. As a hearing-impaired individual myself I thought that was really awesone

I read about this in the newspapers! And guess what? Co-incidently just a few days before this incident I was wearing my grandpa’s hearing aid to see if i can be a superhero like daredevil or something. But it was actually pretty noisey and I could barely hear people’s conversations around the nighbourhood. All i could hear was the people’s not-so-clear voice and the air. It does increase the volume of hearing but unfortunatley you hear everything very loud and noisey.

    It’d be a super-hearing aid, of course. 🙂

Good to see that 1) Marvel responded with Hawkeye, then built the bridge to Blue Ear and more importantly 2) that it helped him become more accepting of his hearing aid…and even inspired him to strive for more.

People come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. Superheroes should as well. A lesson for us all to remember as we write because we never know when we’ll have the chance to inspire and help someone out there.
