Writing Contest: What the Hell!?!

Joe Jusko did his best with a rather strange comic book cover.  Please describe what you think is happening in the issue.   Take as much space as you need.

The Decepticons planted cheesy signet rings in select boxes of Kellogg’s cereal, which (once activated) broke free and hunted down the Green Lantern (and his mini-me). They found them inside an active volcano. Green Lantern says “OH NO” and starts shooting the cheesy signet rings with some unknown substance that no doubt tastes like green apple. However, they were clearly outnumbered, and, while the mini-me was killed immediately, Green Lantern was doomed to an eternity of poor fashion sense and crotch-hugging spandex pants.

In summary: I have no idea whatsoever.

Well I think it’s clear that the black rings are bombs sent by Sinestro and the two Green Lanterns in the picture are trying to stop them all before they reach the planet below.

Well, I think it’s pretty obvious! Come on, guys, think for a moment.

The rings have what looks like a teepee design on them. They were used in a poker game at an Indian themed casino and Green Lantern went there to relax for a while. They were actually planted by a new threat, Chief Casino, who wanted to get rid of GL once and for all. He ensured that GL won the game and took the box of rings, which contained microchips that enabled him to remote control them.

GL was strolling past a volcano with the other guy when the rings went crazy and started to attack them, so they called upon the power in their rings to blast the evil technology with green slime.

Chief Casino tried to flee, but GL caught him and stuffed him inside a slot machine.

I bet you guys feel pretty stupid right now. I unraveled the plot in a matter of moments. Haha, kidding.

It’s a toughy, but I’m guessing something along the lines of what Tom said. The rings may have some form of mind-control device, or bombs, or some other piece of technology that would generally mess the wearer up.

Alternatively, It could be a power-struggle between the to GL’s over who gets the rings. They may have power boosting abilities. It’s a stretch, but who knows.

On a side note, if you look closely it looks like their combined blasts are actually creating the rings. Maybe it’s about the creation of a new type of Green Lantern and their forbidden and/or mythic alien power.

I could ramble on all day…

The black rings are the ring’s of the Black Hand’s personal Lantern unit, focusing on using necromancy to raise an army, the rings are for whatever reason, floating entirely upside down thusly obscuring the intended meaning behind the symbol of resembling a hand, with the triangle representing the hand, the lines being four fingers and a thumb.

Guy Gardner and Kyle Raynor are attempting to prevent the black rings from reaching the remains of a planet that suffered a life-ending disaster, and perhaps once held a very powerful species, such Kilowog’s, Kryptonians, or perhaps one that would prove strategically valuable in limited scenarios, and the rings seek to resurrect them. That happening, would turn the tide infinitely in the villain’s direction.

Actually, I’d like to make a revised guess now that I’ve found out those rings have the symbols of the black version of the Green Lantern, which I’ll assume is called the Black Lanterns.

The evil shadow organisation, not unlike the Sinestro Corps, the Black Lanterns, have replaced every GL’s ring with a disguised Black Lantern ring, with the exception of two GLs, whoever’s in the picture. Apparently that’s Guy Gardner and Kyle Rainer. (sp?) The Black Lanterns then activated the rings and sent them to destroy the remaining two GLs, and now the heroes must fight back!

Green Lantern Corps’ marketing team decide to release a cereal to be released all over the universe. It was to be called ‘Green Lantern Crunch.’ To get parents to buy it for their kids, they decided to package a power ring with every box. Despite ordering standard plastic Green ones, they ended up with a bunch of black ones. In a fit of rage, they are destroyed in outer space.

    Basically: Hell if I know.
