I’m writing a hero novel about a futuristic world run by a superpowered tyrant. All people on the planet must dress like him, be like him, and follow every rule he puts into place or be killed. Even worse, he has cloned himself multiple times so that he may be able to watch over every country at once. Meanwhile, Roland Pinkus finds himself running naked through the woods without a clue who he is. He is approached by a team of superheroes bent on overthrowing the evil tyrant and reclaiming the world in the name of good. When they reveal to Roland that he too has special abilities, they convince him to join their fight. But what Andre doesn’t know is that he was part of the fight all along. A romantic subplot involves Roland and a member of his team who initially does not care for Roland at all.

I don’t have a specific target audience in mind just yet, but I do know this won’t be for kids! Unless I get a Saturday morning cartoon deal. Then I can “G” it up. LOL!

This is my first attempt at writing a novel. Normally, I just write short stories as a hobby. But I’ve been reading and watching a lot of sci-fi stuff lately and I thought, “Hey, I could do better than THAT!”

Comparable works for my untitled novel might be — I absolutely hate to say this — X-Men. I hate to say that because this is my fourth attempt at trying to write this novel and it always turns into an X-Men ripoff. This time around, I plan to distance the connection as well as I can.

I’m working on finishing up the first chapter, and I’ll give you all a little taste!

Also, I just noticed a mistake in my last post! I slipped up and called the character Andre instead of Roland, but I forgot to change one. LOL! Roland is so much easier to type than Andre is, so I changed his name.

Hmm. A few thoughts and suggestions.

–Roland strikes me as kind of an old-fashioned name for a sci-fi protagonist. Your hero doesn’t have to have a cyberpunkish name like Neo or whatever, but I think that Roland sounds more like fantasy than sci-fi. Also, I’d recommend something plainer and probably tougher in place of Pinkus.

–What’s Roland’s personality like? I think that’s the most important thing determining whether the book will be readable. Also, it’s probably especially important that he be very stylish because a sci-fi hero in the future probably won’t be as relatable as Spiderman or even the X-Men for that matter.

–Is your heart in the romance? It sounds like the romance angle doesn’t really excite you. I’d recommend only doing it if it’s something you really, really want to do, not because you feel obliged to.
