Superhero Nation in two sentences

Superhero Nation is a mostly cynical parody about superheroes, particularly an aging ex-sidekick and a federal agent that may not be an alligator. The plot focuses on preventing a chemical attack on an American city.

Read some glowing reviews from people that should know better!

Our Writing Style

  1. Funny, mostly. Superhero Nation is a mostly deadpan look at an absurd and remotely familiar world. Knowing a bit about comic books is helpful but not required.
  2. This work is rated PG-13 for vulgarity and cartoonish violence. Someone gets eaten early (for comedic effect) and the work uses “squid” as a verb and “face-leeching” as a noun.
  3. Superhero Nation pokes fun mainly at superhero stories that take themselves too seriously and propaganda posing as entertainment. We also make fun of ridiculous stories like 24, Pokemon and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What are you like?

J. Mallow… and author! Being bad has never looked this good.

I’m not really a supervillain, but I play one on my header. Somehow I suspect that any eventual movie won’t cast me as Jacob Mallow.

I’m a smalltime journalist and academic. If you comb through the literature on strategic nuclear warfare and terrorism, you may come across my work. I’ve also worked in the government and a D.C. think-tank in data analysis and communications.  Along the way, I’ve come to loathe politics, but I’m still enthusiastic about policy.

Our other contributors include an ex-AFROTC cadet, a hopelessly addicted political futures gambler and a writing instructor that describes himself as “mildly disgruntled.”

Is there some element of writing you’d like us to address? Need beta reviewers? You can send questions and comments to SuperheroNationATgmail.com . (Just remember to replace the “AT” with the @ sign, obviously).

I’d love to read it. How do I start?

  1. The first chapter (Life, Death and the Manhattan Mangler) is available here. For other chapters, please check the sidebar.
  2. If you don’t have enough time to read a chapter now, you could bookmark Superhero Nation or subscribe to our feed.
